So, you are moving! Such an exciting time, and also one of life’s most stressful.
To alleviate some of the stress that moving creates, take a peek at these tips:
#1- Plan ahead! Make lists of things that are can be donated, given away, etc.
#2- Start chucking! Yes, you heard me, throw it out! When you start to consider how useful things really are, and remember that you will have to touch it at least three times (pack, move, un-pack) it can really put into perspective the items you actually need to keep. I go from room to room with a large trash bag and do what I like to call “The Big Fling”.
#3- Pack early and often. Break it up into smaller chores, one box a day is way more managable than a whole house in a weekend. Don’t need it everyday? Pack it up! Out of season? Pack it up! You get the idea.
#4- Color code the boxes. Get stickers or markers and make a code for the move. IE: blue boxes are bathroom, green is kitchen, etc. This will make it much easier the day of the move, especially if you are doing it with friends and family.
#5- Start calling to transfer utilities, cable, phone, etc. You don’t want to wait until the last minute because you are bound to forget and you don’t want to pay for the new owner’s heat!
#6- Breathe. Enjoy. Breathe again.
