Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

On the second episode of TREW- The Real Estate Wrapup, my co-host Nick and I discussed kitchen improvements, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and short sales.

Are you curious to know if you should do the “whole she-bang” on a kitchen re-do?  We discuss the options from complete do-over and minor “spiff ups” that might make the biggest difference in the value of your home.

Western Massachusetts is the host to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.  A very worthy family in the Springfield area will be getting a new home thanks to this amazing production.  Nick and I discuss how people might be able to find more information or help.

What is a short sale?  How does it work?  The process of deciding that you need to use a short sale to sell your home isn’t an easy decision.  The benefits and potential pit falls of buying a home that is a short sale are things that a home buyer needs to consider.  We share some explanations and offer a road map to getting started as a home seller in a short sale or a home buyer buying a short sale.

Colonial Harvest Day in Downtown Westfield, MA

This post was updated on September 25, 2011

I spent a couple of hours on a lovely Indian Summer day at Westfield’s Colonial Harvest Day, which was a wonderful event!

Upon arriving we were greeted with the sounds of a Drum and Fife band and the scent of the vendor’s food cooking. My family and I greatly enjoyed strolling down Court Street and viewing the crafts and displays. Highlights of our day included: Berkshire Brewery’s specially brewed Harvest Ale, a horse drawn ride, historic costumes and Colonial music, the lovely luncheon and decor at Lydia’s and the real joy of seeing Downtown Westfield bustling with happy residents. Here is a short video I shot:

When Will It Snow in Westfield, MA? Contest!

Snow bunnies of Western Massachusetts

I am going to host a contest this year to have my readers guess what day they think the first snow will fall in Westfield, MA.

I will qualify “first snowfall” as the first time it lands and coats the ground or “sticks”.  Therefore, flurries that melt right off won’t count.

Participants need to put their guess for the date the first snow will fall in Westfield, MA in the comments below.  You cannot post the same date as someone ahead of you.

The winner will receive a $50 gift card for Ezra’s Mercantile on Elm Street in Westfield.

OK folks, get your guesses logged in!

UPDATE:
Well, no one won because the first snowfall of 2011 in Westfield, MA was on OCTOBER 28th! I was out showing houses in that mess and managed to fall on my face in front of new customers as I slipped while getting out of the car. The third and fourth house we looked at had no power and we all had trouble stopping at the end of a downhill driveway. I went home soaked and sore to hurry up and charge everything and get a fire going before my power went out. Good thing I did, since the power went out about an hour after getting home. Who woulda thunk it?!

New Restaurant on East Main Street, Westfield, MA

Five Guys Burgers & Fries Westfield, MAIf you are a resident or commuter in Westfield, MA, you have probably noticed the new building going up next to Blockbuster on East Main Street.

There is no signage up advertising what the building is going to be, so I inquired one day at the desk of Expert Fitness (right behind the building). I was told that the building is going to be a Five Guys Burgers & Fries.

Just thought I would share in case you were wondering, too!
