Alumni of Westfield State University Using Social Media

I was honored to be included in September’s issue of “Focus” Magazine, the alumni publication for Westfield State University.

The article featured alumni who are using social media to further their careers and enhance their business.

It is wonderful to be included in this WSU publication and to have an opportunity to share how I am using social media to help sell homes in Western Massachusetts.

My English degree from Westfield State University helps me with writing and creating my marketing plans. As a real estate agent at Park Square Realty in Westfield MA 01085. I enjoy combining traditional marketing with online and social media marketing to help my clients sell their homes and help buyers to find their next home.

Thank you to my good friends at WSU for including me in this article!

Virtual Vision Board

Do you know what a vision board is? It is a board with images that are indicative of things that you want to attract into your life. Pictures, poems, items can all be posted to remind you daily of your goals and aspirations. This visualization tool is said to call into the play the Law of Attraction. My sister has a prominent one in her kitchen, but I have never taken to the idea. I don’t know if it is because they called it a “Law” and I dislike rules or if it is an aversion to paper, but it just never appealed even though I appreciate the concept.

Recently I have been thinking about my life as it was, as it is now and as I dream that it will be and got to thinking that it may be time for a vision board. Being the internet geek that I am I have decided to create a virtual vision board instead of the traditional type.

I figure that by posting my vision board here in the public eye I gain a few things that a board at home could not accomplish:

1- accountability
2- support
3- assistance

I call upon you, my friends, clients and unknown readers to help me and I will do the same for you. See what my goals are and maybe you can help by applauding my efforts, reminding me to stay the course or even referring some business my way. Who knows if this will work, but it sure can’t hurt!

This is a work in progress and will change as my goals and aspirations shift and grow. My sister is one to say that you have to put things “out in the universe”, so that is what I have done. Law or no law, I hope to attract these events into my life.

FourSquare-endipity

This is a true life social media tale about the serendipitous nature of FourSquare.

I am a sometimes user of FourSquare. I would use it more often if I had a different phone, but my antique Blackberry Curve can’t seem to handle the application very well and often freezes when I am trying to check in places. That I will solve shortly when I get my iPhone and after my true life experiences this summer, I can’t wait to use it more often!

This One Time In Vegas….

Morriss and I were on our vacation with a final destination of Utah, but the first night was spent at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas. I managed to coax my phone through the check-in process to discover that the editor of my Masslive.com real estate articles, Laura Merwin was also staying there. I have never met Laura face to face and was excited to create a spontaneous meet up, but our schedules didn’t connect. All the same, I thought it was a lot of fun to see that someone I “knew” was there at the same time and afforded our #westernma friends on Twitter and Facebook a chance to chat about how random life is at times.

Put Me In Coach!

Derek Massey and I at the Orioles Game

Over Labor Day Morriss and I took our kids to a baseball game at Camden Yards in Baltimore and I checked in. Moments later I saw that a friend, Derek Massey, was also checked into the ballgame. We tweeted during the game and he came by before he left to have a quick visit. It was awesome to see him even for just a moment and it never would have happened if it wasn’t for checking in on FourSquare!

Round Peg in a Square Hole

On our return drive from Baltimore, Morriss and I stopped at a rest area in Connecticut. As we were stretching and letting the kids run a bit, a woman approached and asked if we were Lesley and Morriss from Twitter. We admitted to the crime and she introduced herself as Heather Brandon (@heddafeddah) who is one of my first Twitter friends and someone with whom I have shared a lot of Mom themed discussions. She recognized us from our Twitter avatars and I am so glad she came over to say hello! This instance has nothing to do with FourSquare, but was so similar in the serendipity department that I had to share it, as well.

Heather Brandon and I at the rest area

I have written a post with ideas on how real estate professionals can use location based technology in their career, but this is really the power of these applications. Social media is about being social and this is a powerful way to put people together in the same place at the same time.

Be sure to friend me up over at my FourSquare profile so we can have a spontaneous meet up one day!

Are we connected on Facebook?

As you may have gleaned by now, I am a social media junkie and love connecting with people online. My network includes people who are near me in Western Massachusetts, friends, family, real estate clients, dance friends and even people from around the world that I haven’t met, but would like to.

I just had my fanpage updated with customization to make it more cohesive with my this webpage, friendlier, more informative, easier to navigate and just more ME! If you are considering a custom fanpage, be sure to reach out to my friend Mike Mueller, who built mine.

I hope we can connect there and share some interaction and discussion!

Back to School in Western Massachusetts “The most wonderful time of the year!”

Back to School
Today was the first day of school at Highland Elementary School in Westfield, MA for my nine and six year old who were super excited to get back to see their friends and meet their new teachers. I was excited, too…..

Although I love the time with my children over the summer, it is really difficult to juggle a career with a kid’s idea of summer vacation, let me tell you. We bounced from “Camp Real Estate” (which is just me dragging them on appointments and shushing them when a phone call comes in) to actual day camp (which they loved) and time off (which in a REALTOR’S life means working triple hard to catch up after).

So we fit in our fun, but we are all ready on some level to get back to our friends, theirs at school and mine at Park Square Realty, and to a bit more structure. I just met them at the bus after the first day and they had a wonderful day…full of stories and bubbling up excitement. I had a great day, too. New beginnings are exciting and full of possibility.

By the time of this posting, most of the area schools are in session. I hope that all my readers enjoyed their summer to the fullest and are feeling the same sense of bittersweet joy captured in this old Staples commercial.
