Western MA Gardening Season!

Western Massachusetts it is time to think petunias and pansies and perennials and PLANTING!
Berkshire Botanical Gardens

I love everything about gardens. I love exploring garden centers, selecting my special new additions to the landscape, getting into comfortable gardening clothes and spending a day in the sunshine getting muddy and tired. I even like the soothing monotony of weeding, once in awhile!

Here in Western Massachusetts we have lots of inspiration and ideas to be found in area gardens in parks, historic estates and neighbor’s yards.

My weakness is perennial flowers, but my daughters love annuals and we usually focus on the flowers that butterflies enjoy. Our favorite shopping destination is Meadowview Nurseries in Southwick , MA which is only open a few short months, but has a huge selection and good prices. We can spend hours (and a lot of money) bonding over our flowers and I tell them what each flower is best used for and what the names mean. It can get busy, but the check out lines move fast and the selection is worth it! Just remember to bring your checkbook or cash, no credit taken here.

A great resource for learning some fun facts about flowers is this post from The Gardening Channel, for example, did you know that Tulip bulbs can be substituted for onions in a recipe?

As a real estate agent in Western MA, I can tell you that an attractive landscape will go a long way in the saleability of your home. If you are currently selling your home it has been proven that yellow flowers attract more buyer attention.

Do you like gardening? What kind of gardening do you do in Western MA? Where is your favorite place to buy plants?

Stoney Hill Condominiums in the Spring

Stoney Hill Condominiums in Westfield, MA boasts lovely landscaping and it truly shines in the spring as the flowering bushes and trees take center stage. There are always people taking a walk, kids riding their bikes and plenty of birds and wildlife to appreciate.

Here are a few pictures from the complex for you to enjoy:

Westfield,MA Construction Project now being called “Big Dig”

photo 1.JPG
Westfield, MA is under construction. It seems everywhere you turn you run into another area under extensive repairs. The green is black and brown and covered in equipment and debris, the Elm Street sidewalks are torn up, road repairs continue down Main Street and the Great Bridge projects are seemingly eternal.

As a REALTOR for Park Square Realty in Westfield, you can imagine that I do a lot of driving around town. This construction has been causing delays for all of us trying to get around town at all times of the day. It can also have an impact on the marketability of your home for sale. We all know that real estate is about location and this construction definitely impacts our location. It is important to remember that this is temporary and will eventually make our City even better than it was.

Yesterday traffic was especially bad as I commented in this post:

Here is a slideshow of pictures that I have taken over the last few months:

Masslive has articles and additional photos available as well.

I am excited to see what my hometown will look like after this process is complete. $100 million dollars worth of work is nothing to sneeze at and I sure hope it looks as good as they say it will! In the meantime, we will all have to take a deep breath and try to stay calm as we sit in traffic jams.

Westfield MA Construction Update

So residents of Westfield, what do you think of the new clock tower?

Westfield MA new clock tower

While I like it, I have heard a lot of varied response to it. I feel that once the rest of the projects are done and there are plantings nearby, it will look even better. Many others, however, really dislike the tower.

In other news, constructions is going hot and heavy again downtown. Outside the Park Square Realty office at 44 Elm Street, Westfield, MA the crews were hard at work this week ripping up sidewalks and curbing.

Elm Street Westfield construction

As I journeyed down Main Street towards East Main today, I was met with significant delays due to traffic funneling down to one lane for continuing road improvements. This construction is making it difficult to schedule home showings for my home buyers in Westfield, as you never know how long it will take to get past the various construction sites.

On Court Street a more attractive job was being done as trees were added to the belt running down the middle of the road.

Some day, when these jobs are done and Westfield is a beautiful place, we will be glad for these disruptions, but for now, they are a major pain in the bum! It is encouraging to be seeing progress, even though it slows the cross town commute.
